How to Reduce the Broken Rate during the Corn Storage

In recent years, with the rapid development of agricultural science and technology, grain yield per acre, total output showed a significant increase in the state; in 2005 China's total grain output has reached 9600 billion kilograms. But behind the high-yield, grain losses are shocking. According to statistics, the majority of farmers in the harvest, transportation, storage, processing and sales to all aspects of the loss rate reach 18.2%, even grain loss rate of grain storage enterprises reach at least 2 ‰ according to a conservative estimate. Grain loss is mainly from the throwing, pollution, broken, mildew, aging and pest insect rats and other harmful biological hazards, and grain crushing exist in the acquisition, drying, storage, distribution of the links.

SRON would like to talk more about the measures to reduce the broken rate while corn storage:
1.Pay more attention to corn purchasing
Firstly, the grain must be sieved while purchasing, sieved grain is cleaning and intact and with low impurity, non-obvious automatic grading, porosity, reducing the pest, mold breeding place, reducing the possibility of local fever, which is conducive to the storage of tide grain. The impurities of grain after cleaning, the farmers recover it and use as livestock, poultry feed, reducing grain losses, and avoid the small traders mixed soil, the risk posed by fraud. So there is no problem of grain broken in the grain purchasing.
Secondly, strictly purchase soft corn, refusing inferior corn. Soft corn with low density, non-fresh color, non-full particles, poor flow ability and automatic grading, it is not conducive for tide grain storage. And poor affinity of soft corn endosperm, it is not anti-collision in the drying process, easy to break, resulting in excessive screening under the grain, storage costs improves, so careful purchasing is necessary. If the client purchase overweight soft corn, it is best to use natural drying, reduce crushing and losses.
2.Change the corn drying and storage process, reduce damage
In the grain storage enterprises large scale and reserves, so it is impossible for original natural drying from the number of grain. But the high cost and broken rate for grain mechanic drying and sending into silo also make us to brain storm from all aspects. Firstly what we think is to change the silo feeding process by using the original technology. Such as the grain depot area, it is wide also contains the wide platform area for the grain natural drying. We will pre-reserve some tide grain after other grain drying finishes. When the climate is warm and good for natural drying, putting the tide grain to the platform and dry them. The corn after drying is with uniform moisture, bright color, impact resistance strength. Also the grain can be sent to the silo directly after natural drying, it doesn’t need to through the wet grain silo and dry grain silo, largely shorten the process, reduce the mechanical collision probability and corn broken rate.
3.Transformation and replacement of machinery and equipment, reduce losses
Corn temperature is low while drying, the moisture is larger, free water frozen in the endosperm, and then form the frozen corn, not so easy to be broken, even after two lifting then sending into the drying tower, and crushing rate is very low.
The corn moisture rapidly evaporate after drying because of continuous high temperature, endosperm affinity changes in corn shape, color change, to withstand the impact of the strength of the lower, easily to be broken. So more than 70% particles crush happens in the corn feed into silo after drying. So our technical engineers decide to change the grain feeding equipment especially for the bucket elevator and scraper conveyor. Such as change the steel bucket to plastic bucket, and change the scraper conveyor to air cushion conveyor.
