Solving Africa's grain storage dilemma: SRON supports food security with innovative solutions

Many African countries are facing severe challenges in grain storage and transportation. Some rely heavily on grain imports, but due to outdated storage systems, they're trapped in a vicious cycle of imports, high losses, and subsequent shortages. FAO data shows that post-harvest losses in Sub-Saharan Africa cost the economy up to $4 billion annually. Aging storage facilities, outdated technology, and imperfect management systems lead to significant grain losses during storage and transportation. Modernizing storage infrastructure has become an urgent need for African countries.
